DIY: Holiday Centerpiece

Decorate your home with homemade decorations without breaking the bank.

I don’t know about you guys, but around this time of year, I feel the need to start decorating my home for the holidays. So, let your family and friends feel the warmth of this Holiday Season, by decorating your home with handmade decorations and centerpieces.

After making a quick stop to my favorite dollar store, I couldn’t help but notice all of the new Holiday decorations. I am always amazed at just how many great items you can find for just one dollar!

While browsing through the decorations, I was inspired to create my own centerpiece.
This project was incredibly simple and took minutes to create. My table now looks very elegant and expensive all for under $6. I already had the glass candle holder and candle. Making this project even better.

Materials (all from dollar store):
* 1 bouquet of faux Poinsettia flowers
* 1 bouquet of faux glittered fruit
* 3 bouquets of different flower arrangements
* Floral wire
* Wire cutters
* Large Glass candle holder or empty mason jar (the one I use is about 7” long)
* Large Pillar Candle

You will need to make a base out of the wire for your centerpiece. Make a circle with the wire. Overlap the wire a couple of times to make it sturdy enough.

Cut the faux plastic poinsettias and the other floral arrangements (ex. glittered fruit) about 3 inches below the heads. Arrange the poinsettias and ornaments evenly around the base. Then start wrapping them around the wire base with the remaining wire. Cut off any excess wire using the wire cutters. Be careful not to poke yourself with the ends. Optional, you may want to buy green floral tape to cover the wire once you are finished.

Once they are in place manipulate the poinsettias and ornaments until you get the desired look.

Finally, place the glass candleholder in the center and add a large pillar candle.

How to make a fabric flower for headband

 In this tutorial you will learn how to make a flower headband. I have been a fan of these headbands for a while now, I use them a lot in my photography as props.

                             You will need: A piece fabric of your choice and button of your choice
                         You will also need: Scissors, a Needle, Thread to match the fabric and a Glue Gun (optional). ( I use a lighter shade of thread for visibility purposes)

Cut a piece of fabric that is about 4 inches wide and 24 inches long for a medium sized flower. Don't have enough fabric? That's ok! The length of the fabric determines the width and size of the flower.

At this point if you are working with fabric that frays you can go ahead and burn the edges carefully with a lighter.

Fold the fabric in half and start threading across.

When you are done start gathering your end piece where the needle stops and pinch from start to finish. Begin  forming your flower and sew the layers as needed to keep the flower in place.

Your flower is halfway done! Now choose your button. A lot of the buttons you see in the picture are actually earrings that I have bought at garage sales or thrift stores.

You can either sew your button or glue the button using a hot glue gun. I prefer to use the glue gun.

And here is the finished product!
I have attached the finished flowers to a stretchy headband.
You can also use these flowers to embellish pillows, purses, blouses and hair pins. Your options are endless.
I hope you enjoy making them. ;)

Basics: How to Make Dangle Earrings

One of the first things that I learned how to make were these dangle earrings. I learned how to make these earrings by examining a pair of earrings that I already had. I was surprised at how easy it was to make them and what very little materials I needed. To practice you can take apart a pair of earrings that you no longer use.

 Below is a list of materials that you will need to get started. You can find all materials at your local hobby/craft store and some department stores have a bead aisle.

Materials:
Head pins or Eye pins
Ear wires
Beads
Round nose pliers

If you are a beginner, I recommend that you have extra head pins just in case so that you can practice until you get it right. Like I said they are so easy to make I’m positive you will get the hang of it right away.
Head pins are available in different sizes and thickness. I like to use 22 or 24 gauge 2 inch head pins because they are easy to bend and work with.

Instructions:
First Step, on a head pin add the beads of your choice.  I used silver color sead beads as spacers. Make sure to leave enough space to bend your head pin.

Second Step, with your round nose pliers bend the head pin at a 90-degree angle or bend away from you.

Third Step, position the pliers on top near the angle so that you are able to make a loop, bending the head pin towards you. Cut the excess wire, if you need to, to close the loop.

Last and final step, add your finished dangle to an ear wire.

Now repeat these instructions to make the other pair.

Congratulations! You have just made your first pair of earrings.

Welcome! About Two Crafty Girls

Hello everyone my name is Perla Yvette. Marbelia and I decided to start a blog because we both love to create. We met in high school, when we both took choir. We are nothing compared to who we were then. We also both took art as an elective and I think that’s were our romance with art began.  But we were too busy being teenage girls to even notice.

 After high school we kind of went our separate ways. I was taking classes at the community college while holding a full-time job. Marbelia got married and is now the proud mommy of three adorable kids. We remained in touch by way of social networks.

I have always been very creative and interested in different hobbies; painting, scrapbooking, crocheting, sewing, jewelry making, etc. You name it. I’ve tried it!

During the summer of 2008, out of nowhere, I decided that I wanted to learn how to make jewelry. Jewelry making has been my favorite hobby so far. I was very excited when I learned how to make jewelry. My friends, especially Marbelia, were surprised at how easy it was to make jewelry that they started making jewelry themselves. Ever since then Marbelia and I have discovered that we have so much more in common. Because we are always creating something we decided that we wanted to share our ideas on crafting and hobbies with everyone else. On here you will find DIY crafts and hobby tutorials and ideas that are easy to follow, make and most importantly affordable.
